The deadline for Registration for the 2016-2017 Battle of the Books was March 31, 2017.  We look forward to seeing all our registered teams at the battle!

Battle of the Books

What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a district-wide academic book bowl. The goal of this event is to teach students the importance of collaboration and team work, creative thinking and problem solving, healthy competition based on mutual respect and challenge literature expectations with regards to Florida’s Language Arts Standards.

What is the timeline?

August-December

Students should begin reading their desired titles from their appropriate list. The third grade list consists of eight titles and the 4th-12th grade list consists of fifteen titles. ALL books on each list are optional reads. No one is required to read all the books on any given list to participate in BoB. A list can be accessed at

January– March 31st 

Coaches will complete an on-line registration form to register their team’s participation in BoB. The form can be accessed at

Each school is allowed three teams with a maximum of five members per team. Alternates are not allowed. Mixed grade level teams are allowed. No team will be allowed to register for BoB after March 31st!  Elementary teams need to specify the grade level of their participants. Please have your team members sign a permission form. Read over the information contained in BoB  brochure under the heading 'How to Prepare My Team Members for Battle.

 

May 5, 2017 - - -Team Member Names Due

By Friday, May 5th, coaches should submit the names of the individuals participating on their teams via an on-line form. A link to this online form will be distributed to all BoB coaches/contacts via email. Schools will need to complete a form for each team participating in the BoB competition. Schools with one(1) team will complete one form. Schools with more than one team with complete either 2 or 3 forms. Remember, there is a limit of  three(3) teams per school. And, each team is limited to five members. There can be less than five(5) members, but there cannot be more than 5. No alternate team members are allowed.

The District Battle of the Books is Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at Washington High School from 8a.m.-12p.m.

Last Year's Battle: 5th Annual BoB Results (May 2016)

On May 14, 2016, the Fifth Annual Battle of the Books was held at Booker T. Washington High School. Four hundred students in 3rd through 12th grades on 84 teams participated in this year's battle. Students answered five rounds of eight questions on books they have been reading all year. Parents and families attended the reading celebration awards ceremony which was held after the battles. We want to acknowledge all teams for their hard work and dedication in preparing for the Battle of the Books.
